Affiliate
marketing is the practice of making a commission by promoting another company's
product or service. You identify a product, promote
it and earn commission from every sale that you make.
If you can
become the link between the audiences you're building and the products and
services they need to succeed, you can supplement your income, and potentially
even make a full-time income from your recommendations.
Affiliate
marketing can be seen as the process of spreading product creation and product
marketing across different parties, where each party receives a share of the
revenue according to their contribution.
The best thing
with affiliate marketing is that you do not need to have the actual product;
the company already has the product. You only need to refer a client to buy the
product and receive your commission. This can be done through a website you
have, a podcast or on social media.
All you need
to do is to send traffic via the product’s link.
My largest
affiliate partnership, with a company called Bluehost, has generated me most
out of affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is good for generating passive income. You do not have to worry about creating your product, customer service is mostly out of your hands, and you can get started as soon as today if you wanted to.
Part of the beauty of affiliate marketing is you don’t have to invest time in creating the
products that will be serving your audience. Those products likely already
exist. Because of that, affiliate marketing is an opportunity anyone can take
advantage of, and it’s easy to get started.
Affiliate
marketing is all around us and you’ve probably been involved in affiliate
marketing without realizing it! If you’ve ever clicked on a link in a blog post
to a product or service being offered on another website, there’s a good chance
the owner of the website where you originally clicked the link received a
commission from your purchase
There are two
ways to be involved in affiliate marketing—either as a product owner or an
affiliate marketer
Who Is a Good Fit for Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate
marketing can be a great choice for online entrepreneurs, bloggers, and really
anyone who has a website and is willing to build an audience they can serve
authentically.
Affiliate
marketing can be an especially good option if you’re not ready to create your product
or service, but you want to serve your audience by recommending products that
maybe helpful to them.
What is needed
for affiliate marketing?
1.
Advertiser—the “affiliate.”
This party is sometimes also known as the
publisher. Affiliates can also range from single individuals to entire
companies. An affiliate marketing
business can produce a few hundred dollars in commissions each month or tens of
millions of dollars.
This is where the marketing happens. An affiliate promotes affiliate products and tries to attract and persuade probable
customers of the value of the merchant’s product so that they end up buying it.
2. The Affiliate Company (or
network). The company that owns the product or service you have to promote.
Sometimes also known as the
creator, the seller, the brand, the retailer, or the vendor. This is the party
that creates the product. It can be a big company, like Dyson, which produces
vacuum cleaners.
3. The customer. The person who buys
the product or service.
Sometimes, affiliates have to go through an
affiliate network to even be able to promote the product. For example, this happens if the merchant
only manages their affiliate program on that network.
Overview
You can become a producer and have others market
your product in exchange for giving them a commission from the sales that they
make.
Or, you can become an affiliate marketer for
one or several products that you would like to promote and market those to end-users,
to make money.
Steps to becoming an
online affiliate marketer
1.
You need to start
reviewing products in your niche. That can be done on YouTube, reviewing blogs or just using live streams on periscope.
2.
You have to collect
emails so that you can connect with your audience at any time you want and
don’t have to hope for them to see your content.
3.
You can use joint
venture webinars to make a lot of sales in a short period, while simultaneously
growing your email list and creating new content.
4.
Finally, once your
affiliate marketing business starts making money, you can scale your growth
with pay per click advertising.
